South Sound 911’s public counter will be open for normal business hours this week, postponing a planned, temporary closure until Jan. 28-29. Normal counter hours will resume on Jan. 30.
Online services and services provided to law enforcement and criminal justice will not be impacted.
The two-day closure on Monday, Jan. 28, and Tuesday, Jan. 29, allows for the implementation of service improvements, including the upgrading of the existing fingerprint scanner, the addition of a second fingerprint scanner, and staff training. These measures are expected to provide more efficient service delivery, particularly for the counter’s more time-consuming services such as concealed pistol license (CPL) applications, fingerprinting, and criminal history inspections. The counter also provides citizens access to a variety of other services such as public records, accident reports, visa clearance statements and specialized forest product harvesting permits.
The South Sound 911 (formerly Law Enforcement Support Agency) public counter is located at 945 Tacoma Avenue South in downtown Tacoma, and normal business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., excluding holidays.
