Plans for the public safety communications center (PSCC) call for a stand-alone backup facility in the event South Sound 911 is unable to operate in the primary communications center due to a natural or other disaster.
The facility planning study identified local options for a backup site, and in late 2016 the same consultant reviewed the current options and recommended that South Sound 911 retain its South 35th Street Communications Center as the back-up facility; the facility currently operates as the agency’s Law Enforcement Communications Center. In January 2017, both the Policy Board and Operations Board approved the recommended back-up facility.
Approximately $1.5 million of the PSCC construction budget is reserved for back-up facility renovations and improvements.
