South Sound 911 launches new toll-free "Eastside" non-emergency number

South Sound 911’s Eastside Communications Center launched a new toll-free non-emergency number, 844-821-8911, for callers in east Pierce County cities in need of non-emergency police, fire or medical aid. The non-emergency number should be used for calls that do not require an immediate, emergency response. Callers reporting a life-threatening illness or injury or an in-progress crime should still call 911.

The new non-emergency number is available to all callers within the city limits of Bonney Lake, Buckley, Fife, Milton, Orting, Puyallup and Sumner. South Sound 911 implemented the number to streamline services and make it easier for callers to request non-emergency assistance from their dedicated communications center.

Callers in other areas of the county, including unincorporated Pierce County, should use South Sound 911’s established non-emergency numbers, 253-798-4721 or 800-562-9800.

South Sound 911’s Eastside Communications Center is a primary 911 center serving seven police departments in the cities of Bonney Lake, Buckley, Fife, Milton, Orting, Puyallup and Sumner; calls for fire and medical aid are currently transferred to one of two fire department communications centers in the county.

The Eastside Communications Center officially became a part of South Sound 911 earlier this year, when the City of Puyallup transitioned its 911 and dispatch services as a part of the overall consolidation plan approved by voters in November 2011. Another primary 911 center, South Sound 911’s South 35th Street Communications Center, serves 12 law enforcement agencies in the county. Combined, the two communications centers answered 952,471 calls in 2015.
